What is Mindset?
When you look outside, objectively you see some houses, a road, the sky, some clouds and maybe the sun is in your view. In theory you and I would see the same thing, right?
Not so much.
Almost everything you observe, there is some data in your brain associated with that observation that carries with it opinions, emotions and memories.
We will both immediately be focusing on different things depending on our state. I might be in a bad mood and see that there are clouds blocking a view. You might be in a great mood and love the shapes you see of the clouds in the sky. It’s inspiring and it adds to your joy. From this you can see we assign meaning to said things, depending on our thinking and our beliefs. So based on just these two factors, what you and I see outside that window becomes almost a different reality. None are wrong, but both are different and can coexist. And both are a choice. You know when you think about buying a new car, all of a sudden you see it everywhere? That’s because you are focusing on it.
Energy flows where attention goes.
The difference between you and the next person is not the experiences you’ve had but the meaning you have created from those experiences, and how you are focusing your attention each day.
There is a strong emphasis in our culture, on the objective scientific world before us. Whilst this is great to have, this focus on facts takes us away from our power of focused attention. We’ve forgotten our ability to create whatever we want through our thinking. We know this as children, but lose it a little along the way. Everything before you is a result of your thinking. From your thinking towards something, emotion is evoked. Meaning is created. And now you have the foundation of your world.
If everything was black and white, why do we all see and experience life in extremely different ways?
That is mindset.
Simply put, mindset is your thinking towards things.
Having a stronger mindset is all about your ability to become aware of your own limiting beliefs, and learning to distinguish beliefs from truths.
Why is it important?
If you’re here reading this, you’ve come with your focused attention. Something on the topic has drawn you here through your thinking.
Why it’s important, is up to you decide. What is drawing you in to understanding yourself better?
For me personally, mindset has been an area of focus that has propelled me forward in my relationship with myself. Consequently, this has had a profound impact on my relationship with others.
I have a better understanding of what it is I really desire, and so my life choices and direction is being steered via this desire. I no longer run away from pain, but travel along the path of joy. I spend less time focusing on what I don’t want, because I have an understanding that what I focus on grows.
I have been able to make this shift through many practices, but the most impactful for me has been having mindset/life coaches guiding me through the mazes.
Stay tuned for my next blog where I break down what coaching is so you can find out if it’s for you (spoiler alert, it’s for everyone).
All my love,
